The Swiss mezzo-soprano, Irma Keller, studied music in Zürich.
After finishing her studies, Irma Keller started her stage career with an engagement at the Theatre of St. Gallen (1948-1949), and then was active at the Opera House of Zürich from 1955 to 1957. From 1957 to 1959 she belonged it to the Opera House of Frankfurt a.M., and from 1959 to 1961 to the Opera House of Cologne. She appeared in her homeland as a guest on the stage and in the concert hall. Stage roles of the singer were thereby Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, the title role in Oberon by Weber, Nicklaus in Hoffmanns Erzählungen, Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel and Gretel, Magdalene in Meistersingern, Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco, Amneris in Aida, Octavian in Rosenkavalier and Christine in Die schwarze Spinne by H. Sutermeister, which she also sang in an opera broadcast by Radio Zürich. In June 1957 she participated at the Opera House of Zürich in the premiere of Mosses und Aron by Arnold Schoenberg. |
