Bart De Kegel (Tenor)

Born: Aalst, Belgium

The Belgian tenor, Bart De Kegel, sang as a boy in the Schola Cantorum Cantate Domino in Aalst, conducted by Michael Ghijs. He then received his vocal training with Lucienne Van Deyck (Antwerp) and Diane Forlano (London) whi is still his current coach. He also perfected through many master-classes with Vera Rozsa, Sarah Walker, Peter Schreier, Robert Holl, Meinard Kraak and Nicolai Gedda. In 1999 he won the Erna Spoorenberg Presentatie.

Since then, Bart De Kegel has been a soloist in oratorio performances throughout Europe. He sang with conductors such as Christian Kabitz, David Shallon, Ed Spanjaard, Daan Admiraal, Peter Neumann,Yuri Simonov, David Angus with such orchestras as the Nationaal Orkest van België (National Orchestra of Belgium), Prima la Musica, Heidelberger Philharmonisches Orchester, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Cambridge Philharmonic Society, Collegium Cartusianum, Holland Sinfonietta, Slovak Sinfonietta, Philarmonica Oradea, etc. His repertoire ranges from J.S. Bach to Igor Stravinsky and Benjamin Britten.

In Passau, Bart De Kegel played with great success starring in W.A. Mozart's Apollo et Hyacinthus; at the Kölner Philharmonie he debuted in 2000 with George Frideric Handel's Saul in a production for the WDR. At the Flanders Festival he sang the Belgian premiere of the work Vigilia by the Finnish composer Rautavaara and at the Ars Musica Festival he sang a haunting rendition of Schubert's Winterreise in the orchestral version of Hans Zender. For Harmonia Gentium he sang The Messiah in Como, Lecco and Bergamo after which he achieved great success in Seregno with Debussy's L'Enfant prodigue.

With the Limburgs Symfonie Orkest Bart De Kegel sang the three tenor roles in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges. He sang Lieder recitals at La Monnaie and the Vlaamse Opera with works by Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms and Tchaikovsky. In 2004 he sang at the Bamboo organ Festival in Manila and brought also a press hailed recital at the Belgian embassy. In the summer of the same year he returned there and sang a Tosti-program at The Cultural Center of The Philippines. He was again invited in 2007 to perform with Philippine Philharmonic Benjamin Britten's Nicholas Cantata.

As a teacher, Bart De Kegel joined the Conservatorium of Leuven. He also has an extensive private practice in Aalst.
