The American soprano, Elise Kaufman (de Caballero), received her education at universities in Iowa and Maryland, and took part in first guest performance tours with touring operas in the USA.
In 1981 Elise Kaufman followed her sister, the soprano Julie Kaufmann (their family name originates in the German language and supposedly wrote with double-N), to Europe. There she first apeared as a guest at the State Theatres of Braunschweig and Hannover and at the State Theatre of Basel. Since 1982, she was a member of the Opera House (Theater im Revier) Gelsenkirchen. Here and in guest appearances at the State Operas of Hamburg and Stuttgart, at the Theatre of Aachen and at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, she sang such roles as the Blondchen in the Entführung aus dem Serail, Bastienne in Bastien et Bastienne by Mozart, Rosina in the The Barber of Seville, Gilda in Rigoletto, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos by R. Strauss (Gelsenkirchen 1992), Morgana in Alcina by George Frideric Handel and other roles from the coloratura and soubrette range, including contemporary works (The Knot Garden by M. Tippett, Constance in Dialogues des Carmélites, Gelsenkirchen, 1995).
Elise Kaufman had also successful career as a concert singer. She also appeared under the name Elise Kaufman de Caballero. |
