The Swedish mezzo-soprano, Helena Jungwirth-Ahnsjö, received her education at the State Music Drama School in Stockholm (1969-1972). In 1969 she married the well-known Swedish tenor Claes-Håkan Ahnsjö (b 1942).
Helena Jungwirth made her debut in 1972 at the Opera Festival in Drottningholm Castle as Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte. In 1972-1973 she was a member of the Royal Opera Stockholm. Here she sang in 1973 the title role in the premiere of the opera Tintomara by Lars Johan Werle. In 1973 she followed with her husband a call to the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, where she had since great success in a wide repertoire. In 1974 she appeared at the Festival of Glyndebourne as Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. In 1987 she performed at the Staatsoper Berlin in the coloratura part of Angelina in Rossini's La Cenerentola.
