The Spanish soprano, María José Moreno, was born in Granada but raised in Madrid. She studied at the Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid with Professor Ramón Regidor and Professor José Luis Montolio. Her operatic debut was in 1996 with Dido and Aeneas. That same year she took part in different operatic events throughout Spain, La Bohème by Puccini, Rigoletto by Verdi and L’elisir d’amore by Donizetti among others.She was also invited as soloist in multiple concerts.
During the 1996-1997 season, María José Moreno won the XXXIV Francisco Viñas Singing International Contest in Barcelona and rendered her first performance at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid in La Fille du Régiment by Donizetti, conducted by Stefano Ranzani. Inmediatly after she was invited to sing W.A. Mozart's Mass in C minor at the X Mozart Festival in Madrid. Since then she has played numerous lyric titles such as : L’elisir d’amore, La fille du régiment and Lucia de Lammernmor by Donizetti; Falstaff, Un ballo in maschera, Rigoletto and Don Carlo by Verdi; Les contes d’Hoffman by Offenbach; Alcina by George Frideric Handel. In similar fashion, she has taken soloist roles in Doña Francisquita by Vives, L’incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi; Werther by Massanet; I puritani and Sonnambula by Bellini; Il barbiere di Siviglia, Il turco in Italia, Il Viaggio a Reims, Tancredi and the oratorio La morte di Didone by Rossini; La bohème by Puccini; Der Freischütz by Weber; Die Zauberflöte, Le nozze di Figaro, Idomeneo, Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart. She debuted at the Wiener Staatsoper with Rosina of Barbiere and alter the great success she was immediatly invited for Olympia in Les Conte de Hoffman. She debuted in La Scala with Gilda of Rigoletto.
María José Moreno has been conducted by maestros such as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Marco Armiliato, Richard Bonynge, Frans Brüggen, Giuliano Carella, Paolo Carignani, Jesús López-Cobos, Peter Maag, Ros Marbá, Victor Pablo Pérez, Christophe Rousset, Stefano Ranzani, Roberto Rizzi Brignoli Julius Rudel, and Alberto Zedda.
In summer 2009, María José Moreno had her very successfull debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, taking on the role of Countess Adele in Le Comte Ory. She made a similar success, invited by Maestro Alberto Zedda, at the Wildbad Opera Festival in Germany performing La Gazza Ladra and in Gulbenkian, Lisbon, with the first modern performace of Zaira. Her recent projects include Donna Anna, Queen of the Night, Francisquita, Waldvogel in Siegfried, Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4, Gilda in Rigoletto amongst others and after her success in Pesaro she was again in the Rossini Opera Festival 2010 for the opera Demetrio e Polibio.
María José Moreno was awarded with a “Grammy” for the recording of Falstaff with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis in 2004 she did also recorded the Arie da Concerto by Arriaga and an a DVD of the Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart. She currently lives in Oleiros, Galicia. |
