The American lyric baritone, Darrell J. Jordan, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in both Psychology (2008) and Bachelor of Arts degree in Music - Voice (2011) and a his Master of Music degree in Voice Performance (2013) from the University of Missouri; and his D.M.A. in Voice Performance from the University of Washington (2020). He also attened Baroque Opera Workshop (2014), was Resident Opera Artist at Missouri Symphony (2016); Amherst Early Music Festival (2015 & 2017); Seattle Opera Teaching Artist (since 2017); Studio Artist at Puget Sound Concert Opera (2018). He currently studies with nationally renowned voice teacher, Dr. Kari Ragan. Previous instruction has been from Steven Tharp and Ann Harrell. His Awards include: Winner at MMTA (2010 & 2011); Honorable Mention at Regional NATS (2011 & 2012); National Semifinalist at Orpheus Vocal Competition (2014); Finalist at American Prize Musical Theatre (2015); First Runner-Up at Benton Schmidt Competition (2017); Finalist Award at Seattle Opera Guild (2020); 3rd Place Winner at Ernst Bacon Award (2021); Finalist Award at Seattle Opera Guild (2021).
Darrell J. Jordan has been praised for his “shining, beautiful voice” (Broadway World), his "expressive baritone and facial expressions" (The SunBreak), and has been called “the star of the show” (Columbia Heart Beat). In demand as a recitalist and concert soloist, his recent solo concert engagements have been with Amherst Early Music Festival, the Odyssey Chamber Music Series, Rolla Choral Arts Society, Choral Arts Alliance of Missouri, Missouri Symphony, Southside Philharmonic Orchestra, Toledo Symphony, Thalia Symphony, Olympia Chamber Orchestra, and the Seattle Art Song Society. He has performed over 30 full roles, some favorites being: Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Dandini in La Cenerentola, Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Count Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, Ignacio in Lucrezia, Count Gil in Il segreto di Susanna, Bunthorne in Patience, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, and Falstaff in Falstaff. Opera credits include Opera West, Tacoma Opera, Wilmington Concert Opera, Music On Site, Inc., St. Louis Opera Collective, Haymarket Opera Company, Gateway Opera, the Institute for 17th Century Music, the Show-Me Opera, Lawrence Opera Theatre, the Puget Sound Concert Opera, Northwest Opera In Schools Touring Company, Operamuse, Seattle Modern Opera Company, Pacific Northwest Opera, the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Seattle, Opera on Tap, OperaBend, and Seattle Opera (outreach cast). He is also Cantorei/Baritone Section Leader at St. James Cathedral, Seattle (since August 2018).
In 2022, Darrell J. Jordan will make his Tacoma Opera debut as Dr. Malatesta in Don Pasquale, and will sing the role of Harlequin in Ariadne auf Naxos in his Barn Opera debut, and will sing Montano in Pacific Northwest Opera’s production of Otello. He can be heard as the baritone soloist on the album "St. Lawrence Psalter", and on the two upcoming albums being released by the Seattle Art Song Society. He is a member and co-artistic director of the nationally recognized, award-winning professional vocal chamber ensemble, Vox Nova.
Before matriculating at the University of Washington, Darrell J. Jordan served on the faculty at the University of Missouri (August 2015-May 2016), Swinney Conservatory of Music of Central Methodist University (June 2012-May 2017), Columbia College (December 2013-May 2017), and Stephens College (December 2015-May 2017). He also was Teaching Assistant (TA) at University of Washington School of Music (September 2018-2019). Since 2021, he is Adjunct Instructor of Voice at Seattle Pacific University, School of Music). He has taught a full private voice studio, voice class, and separate Italian, German, English, and French lyric diction classes. His students have gone on to win or place in competitions such as NATS, The American Prize, and the Glory Int’l Music Competition. He currently lives in Seattle, Washington. |
