The American soprano, Kate Johnson, achieved her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance in May 2017 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), where she studied with Kate Butler. Fully staged opera performances include singing Beth in UNL Opera’s production of Little Women (2016), Susanna in UNL Opera's production of W.A. Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (2016), and Zerlina in UNL Opera’s production of W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni (2015). Competition successes include the Opera Omaha Guild Award at the Nebraska District MET National Council Auditions (2016); 1st place in the NATS West Central Region Auditions (2014, 2015, and 2016); 1st place (2017), 3rd place (2015), and semifinalist (2014) in the NATS National Student Auditions. Studying Lied performance at the Franz-Schubert-Institut in Austria (2016), she sang in public master-classes with artists including Elly Ameling. She has also trained at the Redwoods Opera Workshop (2017).
At SongFest (2016), Kate Johnson performed as the soprano soloist the complete J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 155, directed by composer John Harbison in his Bach Cantata Institute, and also performed with Martin Katz. |
