Monika Jägerová (Mezzo-soprano, Contralto)

Born: Hořovice, Czech republic

The Czech mezzo-soprano/contralto, Monika (Monica) Jägerová, received private lessons with Pavla Zumrová (vocal technique) and Irena Troupová (historically informed interpretation of early music). She has attended master-classes with Emma Kirkby (Dartington International Summer School 2015), Chantal Santon Jeffery, and Deda Cristina Colonny (Academy Versailles 2018), Markéta Cukrová and Lorenzo Charoye (Summer School of Early Music Valtice 2015). In 2016 she won the Prague Singer International Singing Competition, in 2017 she received an honorable mention at the Iuventus Canti International Singing Competition (Vráble, Slovakia) and made it to the finals of the Renata Tebaldi International Singing Competition in San Marino. In 2019 she won 3rd Prize in the Lieder category at the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary. She also studied violin at the Jan Deyl Conservatory in Prague, and obtained her Master's degree in Musicology at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, with the emphasis on 17th and 18th century music.

Monika Jägerová made her debut on the Czech opera stage in October 2017 in the role of Mrs. Quickly in Falstaff at the Silesian Theater in Opava, where she then introduced herself as Kohout in Janáček’s Cunning Little Vixen (April-July 2018) and Háta in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride (January-May 2022). In the 2018-2019 season, she made her debut at the Moravian-Silesian National Theater in Ostrava in the roles of Princess in Suor Angelica, and Zita in Gianni Schicchi as well as The Old Slovak Woman in Destiny. In February-March 2022, she debuted as Bradamante in George Frideric Handel's Alcina in National Theater Brno with Collegium 1704 and Václav Luks. At the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, in the role of Mrs. Baggot she participated in the international performance of Benjamin Britten's opera The Little Sweep (2016) and performed the alto part in the stage oratorio Stabat Mater by Valentina Shuklina (2017). In March 2023, she will appear at Bergen Nasjonale Opera as The Third Wood Nymph the new version Rusalka (postponed from October 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic).

Monika Jägerová is passionately dedicated to the interpretation of early music, regularly collaborating with ensembles such as Collegium 1704, Czech Ensemble Baroque, Hof-musici, and Ensemble Damian; in 2019 she was a guest at the Oude Muziek festival in Utrecht with the Tourbillon Ensemble. She performed at the Castle Baroque Theatre in Český Krumlov as Curtio in A. Giannettini's Claudio Nerone (2018) and Timante in Johann Adolf Hasse's Demofoonte (2019), at the Olomouc Baroque Festival she performed as Gloriain in Antonio Vivaldi's La Gloria e Imeneo (2018) and Giove in K. Ditters von Dittersdorf's Il Tribunale di Giove (2019). For the summer season in Vadstena, Sweden, she assumed the role of Ascalax in Georg Philipp Telemann's Orfeo (July-August 2019). She currently lives in Prague, Czech republic.
