The Dutch bass-baritone, Anne Horjus, was raised in a small village near the Wadden Sea in the Northern part of the Netherlands known as Friesland. From kindergarten on he had to bike to school. Every day he traveled through farm fields and other tiny villages, passing many Frisian farms and countless migrating birds using the coastline as their route. Inspired by his surroundings he started to sketch, paint and make things with whatever he found in the house. After high school, he went on to study classical singing at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
While he enjoyed singing and teaching, Anne Horjus decided to put together a portfolio of his art work. Since then he has been active in a variety of freelance projects including portraits, landscapes, murals, theater sets, woodcarvings. He has illustrated several children's books in both color and black and white. His favorite mediums are pen and ink, pencil, acrylic, airbrush and oil paint. In 2008 he was a proud member of the book cart drillteam that became State champion in Wisconsin.
Since Jannuary 1998, Anne Horjus also operates as bass-baritone classical singer. His solo concert and opera experience include J.S. Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann, Dietrich Buxtehude, George Frideric Handel, Purcell, Mozart, Monteverdi, Cavalli, Menotti. He published the CD “De Spielman (Frisian art songs)”. |
