The American tenor, Matthew Hill, studied at the Reservoir High School (2004-2008). He received his Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Maryland College Park (2009-2013), where he studied voice with Carmen Balthrop, and was a member of the UMD Chamber Singers. He frequently performed as a soloist with the University of Maryland: Bach Cantata Series in addition to singing with the Chamber Singers, both at prestigious local venues such as the Kennedy Center, as well as abroad. In August 2009 he was awarded Creative and Performing Arts Full Tuition Scholarship from Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. He is currently a graduate student of the Maryland Opera Studio under the tutelage of Gran Wilson.
Matthew Hill was Young Artist at Ohio Light Opera in Wooster (May-August 2012 (4 months), with over 50 performances of six different operetta and musical theatre productions over the course of three months. Currently, he particpates in the Young Artist Program at Opera Saratoga, sponsored through the generous support of Steve Rosenblum. Recent roles include Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with Siena Music Festival, Damon in Acis and Galatea with New Dominion Chorale, and in musical theatre production as Mark Cohen in Rent, and Matt in The Fantasticks at the University of Maryland.
Since January 2013, Matthew Hill sings weekly at the church of the presidents in Washington D.C.: St. John's Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square. He also performs as a soloist and chorister with the Washington Master Chorale (since August 2012), Washington Bach Consort (Director: J. Reilly Lewis), and Santa Fe Desert Chorale. |
