The American soprano, Jennifer (Jenny) Poffenberger Heichelbech, graduated from Columbus North High School in Columbus, Indiana in 1984. She earned her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington.
A soprano known for her musical versatility, Jennifer Heichelbech’s performances include everything from opera to musical theater, big band and jazz to the great choral works. She has been the featured vocal soloist in several performances with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bloomington Pops Orchestra, with an Interdenominational Church Music Series in Columbus, and has performed a varied repertoire: Francis Poulenc’s Gloria, Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, light opera arias and Pops favorites. She is a member of the vocal female quartet The Grateful Divas. In addition, she sings with the Indianapolis Opera Chorus. She also was guest soloist for the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2007-2008 season, singing Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brazilieras and the J.S. Bach’s B minor Mass (BWV 232), both of which are available on CD recording through the CIP website. In the the fall of 2008 she performed for IO’s production of Verdi’s Il Trovatore, and in the fall of 2009 with the IO opera chorus for Puccini’s La Boheme. She premiered the roles of Mother Nature/Emily in the musical Pollen (role of Mother Natures, at Buskirk-Chumley Theater, Bloomingtom, February 2004) and has appeared in numerous other musical theater productions, including The Secret Garden, Carousel and The Four Note Opera (Indiana University, April 1991) In December 2010, she sang George Frideric Handel’s Messiah with the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra and Hendricks Symphonic Choir under the baton of Benjamin G. Del Vecchio.
Under her maiden name of Poffenberger, Jennifer recorded CD of 20th century classical art songs entitled “Mostly Americana”, published on the Enharmonic label (1993). She has sung with a jazz trio, Jenny and the Jazz Standards, and also performed with two big bands in the southern Indiana region.
