The American bass-baritone, George Heath, is a graduate of Concordia College New York where he earned a B.S. in music education.
After graduation George Heath performed many supporting and leading roles with such companies as The New York Chamber Opera, Bronx Opera, Lyric Opera of New York, Regina Opera, and Hudson Opera Theatre among others. He is also active as an oratorio singer having sung with many choral societies and churches in the New York City metro area. In 2010 he earned an Master of Arts degree in vocal performance from Hunter College in New York City where he focused on German and English song literature. As a graduate student, he won the annual Hunter College Concerto/Aria composition singing W.A. Mozart’s concert aria Cosi dunque tradisci. He also created the role of the “Banker” in the world premiere of Richard Burke’s Game of Poker.
Last spring (2012) George Heath participated in NYU’s multi-media “Lucretia” project, singing the role of Collatinus in Benjamin Britten’s Rape of Lucretia. In January 2012 he created the role of Phillipe in the world premiere of Ionel Petroi’s French Lessons, a new opera based on Ionesco’s play French Conversation and Diction Exercises for American Students.
George Heath first studied Schubert’s Winterreise as a graduate student being chosen to participate in a Winterreise piano class under the direction of Geoffrey Burleson. As a culmination of the class, he and 24 piano students (one pianist for each movement) gave a performance in Hunter’s Lang Recital Hall. After which, he has made the work a permanent part of his winter recital repertoire, and has given performances throughout the New York City metro area including performances at Café Vivaldi in Greenwhich Village.
In addition to his singing activities, George Heath works as Cantor/music teacher for Village Lutheran Church and The Chapel School in Bronxville, New York. He resides in Westchester County New York with his wife and two daughters, and studies voice with Susan Gonzalez in New York City. |
