Anne Harley (Soprano)

Born: Canada

The Canadian soprano, Anne Harley, is a graduate of Yale University, and received her Master's Degree in voice from Boston University as well as the Certificate in Opera Performance from Boston University's esteemed Opera Institute

Anne Harley has since performed throughout Canada, the USA and England, specializing in both contemporary and early music. Describing a recent performance premiering Three Songs for Antigone by Marjorie Merryman, The Boston Globe described Ms. Harley's voice as glinting like a scimitar and floating like spindrift, while praising her as a compelling advocate for this repertoire. Her recording of works by women composers of the French Baroque with the Boston-based La Donna Musicale was one the finalists in the recent Early Music America/Dorian Recordings national competition. She has appeared at the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Tanglewood Institute and this summer participated in a performance of George Frideric Handel's Saul at the Dartington International Summer School under the direction of Ivor Bolton. Her involvement with early music performance has resulted in collaboration with such ensembles as Schola Cantorum of Boston and Concertino Armonico.

In addition Anne Harley has broadcast and recorded as soloist with the choirs of Trinity Church and Marsh Chapel. As a soloist with the Boston Bach Ensemble she has performed J.S. Bach's cantatas BWV 40, BWV 42, the F major mass and the solo cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen, BWV 51. A valued member of Oberlin's Baroque Performance Institute, this year she was invited to participate as soprano soloist in a complete performance of Monteverdi's Vespri della Beata Virgine (1610) under the direction of Kenneth Slowik.
