The Israeli baritone, Willy Haparnas, was born in Romania and studied at the Bucharest Academy of Music.
Before settling in Israel he appeared in Romania in operas, concerts and on radio. In Israel he rapidly became one of the most sought-after singers, appearing regularly with the Chamber Ensemble, which he joined at its funding, as well with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony, at the Abu Gosh Festival, and in recitals. He sung at events of the Israel Festival and the festivals of Ein-Gev and Abu-Gosh. In 1960 he toured the USA with the Chamber Ensemble.
His repertory included many operatic roles, from Mozart, through Menotti to Avidom, oratorios, concert pieces and Lieder. He participated in many world premiers by Israeli composers. Willy Haparnas teached at the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem. |
