The New Zealander tenor, Andrew Grenon, secured a place at the Wales International Academy of Voice when head tutor, internationally acclaimed tenor, Dennis O'Neill (CBE) heard him sing at the New Zealand Opera School. He spent two years in Cardiff under the tutelage of O'Neill and other tutors such as renowned soprano Nuccia Focile. This was made possible by generous support from, among others, the New Zealand Opera Foundation, the Dame Malvina Major Foundation, the Wallace Arts Trust and The Arts Foundation. Andrew is proud to be born and raised in Christchurch. He obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in performance music with Honours at the University of Canterbury (2003-2006), under the tutelage of Vernon Midgely and Dame Malvina Major.
Andrew Grenon is a self-employed singer since 2006, a tenor soloist suitable for most concert repertoire, and the light-lyric, comic, or character operatic roles. As well as an appearance with City Choir Dunedin some eleven years ago (2007), he has performed as a soloist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Christchurch City Choir with Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Choir with Orchestra Wellington, Bach Musica, and Viva Voce.
Andrew Grenon made his debut in a principal operatic role in 2013 with New Zealand Opera as Acis in George Frideric Handel's Acis and Galatea, while he was a Freemasons New Zealand Opera Resident Artist. The following year he sang again for New Zealand Opera as Gastone and Giuseppe in Verdi's La Traviata. He has also appeared with other New Zealand operatic companies, including Day's Bay Opera and Opera Otago. He was a Dame Malvina Major Foundation Emerging Artist of NBR with New Zealand Opera in 2009 and 2010 and understudied Triquet in Eugene Onegin and Curzio and Basilio in W.A. Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro as well as performing as a member of the Chapman Tripp Opera Chorus. He is currently a Freemason's Resident Artist with New Zealand Opera.
