The American choral conductor, organist and bass singer, Julian J. Goods, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He obtained Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education (Choral) with Honors from the University of Michigan (2015-2019), and is a second year for his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at the same institute (2019-2021). He is the Assistant Director of the Austin Neighborhood Choir.
At the University of Michigan, Julian Goods currently serves as co-director for the University of Michigan Chamber Choir. He also was a member of the Men’s Glee Club, served as Director of the Michigan Gospel Chorale and worked as a liaison to the Dean of the School of Music, Theatre and Dance where he focused on ways to make classrooms and teaching more diverse both in population and the music being taught. In 2018, he traveled to South Africa where he spent time learning about South African music and tradition, finding ways to incorporate South African music into the classroom, and serving as a guest clinician for many choirs in the cities Pretoria and Soweto.
Most recently, Julian Goods received several awards including the Martin Luther King Jr. Spirit Award from the North Campus Deans of the University of Michigan for his commitment to social justice, diversity and inclusion, the Earl V. Moore Award from the School of Music, Theatre & Dance for exemplifying the highest level of artistic achievement in the Music Department, and was named one of the members of the Diapason Magazine’s 20 under 30 Class of 2019 for his devotion to the Organ, the Harpsichord, Carillon and Church Music.
Julian Goods served as Assistant to the Director of Music/ Organist at Hillcrest Baptist Church (February 2011-August 2015); Organist at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Flint, Michigan (January 2016-April 2017); and currently serves as organist at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit (since May 2017). He is President of the Collegiate Board and Central Region Recording Secretary for the National Association of Negro Musicians and is a faithful member of his local branch, the Detroit Musicians Association. |
