The German bass, Benedikt Göbel, acquired considerable musical experience in his childhood and adolescence as a member of various choruses. While still in school he began his vocal training with Hartmut Elbert. In 1999 he became a member of the Bayerischen Singakademie, a state-sponsored institution to further especially talented up and coming young singers. Here he appeared as soloist in Reinhard Keiser's Ulysses and Das jüngste Gericht ("The Last Judgment") by Dietrich Buxtehude. From 2004 to 2008, while studying for a high school teaching certificate, he took voice lessons from Minari Urano at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.
During his studies, Benedikt Göbel performed as soloist in well-known oratorios by J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel and Monteverdi. Besides sacred music he also made operatic appearances, singing such roles as Polyphemus in G.F. Handel's Acis and Galatea and Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. After a full year in the Bavarian Broadcasting extra chorus, he became a permanent member of the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks in July 2009. |
