The Austrian mezzo-soprano, Martina Gmeinder, has been singing since she was a little girl. After a childhood full of piano-, violin- and singing-lessons she passed her first course of studies at the Mozarteum in Innsbruck – majoring mathematics, music and instrumental education and vocals. She became a mezzo-soprano at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Following studies at Professor Kurt Widmer in Basel, Barbara Daniels and Jennifer Chamandy in Innsbruck.
Martina Gmeinder discovered her passion for performing on stage at engagements in Verdi's A Masked Ball (Choir of the Tirolean regional theatre) and Don Pasquale (Kornmarkt choir of the City of Bregenz). Following she was engaged in singing masses, concerts and recitals in Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Italy and Switzerland.
Very successful and much-noticed by the press Martina Gmeinder sang the Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach, Te Deum by Anton Bruckner, Stabat Mater and Salve Regina by Joseph Haydn, Oratorio King David by Arthur Honegger, Requiem by W.A. Mozart, Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Requiem by G. Puccini senior, Petite Messe solennelle by G. Rossini and Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi. A first concert tour (February 2008) led her to Japan where Symphony No. 2 of Gustav Mahler was performed directed by Manfred Honeck. |
