The American contralto/mezzo-sorano, Allidson Gish, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge (2003-2007); her Master of Arts degree in Communication Disorders from Louisiana State University (2007-2010); and her Professional Studies Diploma Mannes College, The New School in New York City (2015-2017). She has also participated in Baroque Vocal Programme, Early Music Vancouver Summer Festival (Summer 2016); Caramoor Bel Canto Apprentice Program, Katonah, New York (Summer 2016); Songfest Professional Fellowship, Los Angeles, California (Summer 2017); Haymarket Opera Company Summer Opera Course (2018); Amherst Early Music Festival Baroque Academy Opera Program (Summer 2018); dell'Arte Opera Ensemble Young Artist Program (Summer 2017 and 2018); Teatro Nuovo, Resident Artist Program (Summer 2019, returning Summer 2021). She is the 1st Place winner of the 2021 Rochester International Vocal Competition.
Praised for her “full-flavored mezzo,” (Parterre Box), “substantial instrument and stage presence” (Voce di Meche) and “plushy instrument of vast range” (Oberon’s Grove), Allison Gish is is based in New York City. Recent roles include Apollo in George Frideric Handel's Terpsicore (American Bach Soloists Academy), Lucia in La gazza ladra (Teatro Nuovo), The Mother in The Consul (Bronx Opera), Lisotta in Salieri's La cifra (dell'Arte Opera Ensemble), Giunone in Cavalli's La Calisto (dell'Arte Opera Ensemble) and Lucretia in Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia (New Camerata Opera), a performance deemed a “knockout” (Reaction, Operawire).
On the concert stage, Allison Gish has been alto soloist in J.S. Bach's Mass in B Minor BWV 232 (American Bach Soloists Academy, Ars Musica), W.A. Mozart's Requiem (Ars Musica), G.F. Handel’s Messiah (Bourbon Baroque), as well as numerous solo cantatas. Last season, prior to COVID-19, she created the roles of Leonora Goosling in Felix Jarrar's Mother Goose, Athena in Kaley Lane Eaton's Psychographics, and was in final rehearsals for Only Remains Remain, an experimental piece by Freya Powell set to premiere at MoMAPs1 and The Green-Wood Cemetery. After the pandemic put a stop to staged performances, Allison sang in the inaugural season of Social Distance Opera (an initiative of BARN Opera) as La Frugola in Puccini’s Il tabarro and in the inaugural season of ViOp Productions as the title role in Mascagni’s Zanetto. She joined the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association this summer for her first season as alto soloist and section leader and will continue in this role in the 2021 season. During the pandemic, she has kept busy by performing in virtual song salons, recreating famous paintings on Instagram, and subtitling full-length operas for this season of virtual watch parties. She resides in New York’s Upper West Side with her husband and two perfect orange cats. |
