Annie Gill (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

The Scottish Mezzo-soprano, Annie Gill, studied at Lancaster University and 'the Knack' at ENO. She completed her postgraduate studies at the RNCM studying with Anthony Roden and Adele Leigh, winning the 2003 Annie Ridyard prize for Mezzo Sopranos and a RNCM study scholarship. She is a major scholar of the Peter Moores Foundation.

Annie Gill sang the roles of Valletto and Amore in L’incoronazione di Poppea with the Opéra National du Rhin, directed by David MacVicar and conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini. Also with the Opéra National du Rhin she has sung the role of Annio in Gluck's Clemenza di Tito and given performances of Phaedra by Benjamin Britten with the Symphony Orchestra of Mulhouse. Recently she has given a concert of Offenbach arias with the Symphony Orchestra of Mulhouse at La Filature Mulhouse, and a staged opera gala with the ensemble of the Staadt Theater Freiburg and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Freiburg.

Annie Gill recently returned from Les Jeunes Voix du Rhin, the opera studio and young artists programme at L’Opéra National du Rhin Strasbourg. With Les Jeunes Voix du Rhin, she has performed the roles of Mercédès and Tisbe, as well as La Périchole, directed by Yves Coudray. She has created various roles with the English National Opera Contemporary Opera Studio and at the RNCM sung the principal role in Martin Butlers A Better Place. Other Operatic roles performed include Dorabella for Opera works and Romeo for RNCM Opera.

Equally at home on the concert platform, last month Annie sang the Mozart Coronation Mass with Kristofer Wahlander and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in St Petersburg. Other recently performed repertoire includes the Mozart Requiem with the Manchester Camerata, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle, Bach B minor Mass (BWV 232) and Messiah.

Annie Gill has given recitals of French song in Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Colmar after a series of master-classes with Antoine Palloc, with whom she continues to collaborate. She performed the Ciganské melodie of Dvořák in Colmar in 2005.
