The Swiss soprano, Annelies Gamper, studied at the Conservatory of Zürich with the famous concert singer Ria Ginster.
Annelies Gamper began her stage career in the 1943-1944 season with an engagement at the Basel Theater. Later, she was at the Theater of St. Gallen, but could primarily be heard in 1947-1972 on the Broadcasting Corporation Radio Svizzera in Lugano, where she participated in numerous opera broadcasts. She sang parts in many operas by H. Purcell, Rameau, Haydn, Mozart, Weber, Verdi, Engelbert Humperdinck, Eugen d'Albert and D. Milhaud, but especially in the operettas by Offenbach, A. Messager, J. Strauss and K. Millöcker.
Of even greater importance, however, was Annelies Gamper's concert career. Not only in the centres of the Swiss musical life, but also in Brussels, Cologne, Mainz and Bonn, Paris and Vienna and at the Piccola Scala in Milan, she appeared as a soloist in oratorios and sacred musical works as well as Lieder recitals. Her singing was broadcasted in France (Radio Paris) and Belgium (Brussels radio). Her concert repertoire ranged from Monteverdi, through the masters of the Baroque and Classical periods to contemporary composers (Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honegger, Zoltán Kodály, Frank Martin, Othmar Schoeck, Ottorino Respighi, Samuel Barber, Michael Tippett, Vito Frazzi).
