Katarina Galagaza (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: May 1995 - Cypress, Texas, USA

The American mezzo-soprano, Katarina Galagaza, She obtained her Bachelor of Music in degree Applied Voice at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (2013-2017). With the Eastman Opera Theatre, she had the privilege of performing Mrs. Soames in Rorem’s Our Town, La suora infermiera in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Suor Pazienza in Giordano’s Mese Mariano, and covered the role of Prince Charmant in Massenet’s Cendrillon. She received a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts (July 2017-2019), where she studied with Penelope Bitzas. With the Boston University Opera Institute, she has performed the roles of Mrs. Webster in Griffin Candey’s Sweets by Kate, Nancy in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring, Flora Bervoix in Verdi’s La traviata, and Fox Goldenback in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen. There, she performed in the chorus of Amahl and the Night Visitors, as the Mezzo-soprano soloist/ensemble in Baseball: A Musical Love Letter. and in the choruses of The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, Tosca, and La traviata. She recently graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City’s Conservatory with an Artist Certificate (2020-2022). There she began studying with Dr. Maria Kanyova. While at the Conservatory, she sang the role of Dorabella in W.A. Mozart’s Così fan tutte. She was the mezzo-soprano Young Artist Apprentice with Lyric Opera of Kansas City (2020-2022).

Katarina Galagaza is Freelance Opera Singer since August 2013. She has performed in scenes as Charlotte from Massenet’s Werther, Dorabella from W.A. Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Prince Orlofsky from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Fidalma in Cimarosa’s Die Heimliche Ehe (Il matrimonio segreto), and Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. She first attended Seagle Festival as an Emerging Artist in the summer of 2018, performing the role of Sesto in George Frideric Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto. In the summer of 2019, she returned to Seagle to perform the role of Cherubino in W.A. Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. She then continued on as a postseason Fall Artist. With the American Center for New Works Development at the Seagle Music Colony, she participated in a workshop of a new opera, Harmony, by Robert Carl and libretto by Russell Banks, premiering at Seagle in 2020. She sang the roles of Livy Clemens’ Ghost and Julia Twitchell, while also singing alto in the ensemble portions. As a part of Seagle’s outreach program, she sang the roles of Monkey Queen and Lord Tiger in Kamala Sankaram’s Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers, and was the mezzo-soprano soloist in their Cole Porter revue, “HOT”.

Katarina Galagaza currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri. While not singing and performing, she enjoys snuggling with her tuxedo cat, Whitman, reading, listening to records, and watching documentaries.
