The Canadian tenor, Philippe Gagné, studied at École secondaire de Rochebelle and Petite Maîtrise de Québec. He studied music at Cégep de Sainte-Foy and obtained his Bachleor of Music and Master of Music degrees in classical singing from Université Laval in Quebec. For Philippe Gagné, singing is much more than vocal production. It represents an authentic gift of the self. He has been praised for his expressiveness, refined musical sensitivity and vocal flexibility, as well as the beauty and lightness of his tone quality. He embraces all preriods of music, but has a predilection for the Baroque repertoire. This particular affinity, combined with an innate talent for the music of this period, has led him to perform in Canada , the USA, South America and Europe. He has performed with many well-known groups, including
Les Violons du Roy, Le Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, Les Boréades, I Musici de Montréal, Le Palais Royal,
Les Idées heureuses (Director:
Geneviève Soly), Ensemble Caprice (Director:
Matthias Maute) and L'Harmonie des Saisons. He has worked under several acclaimed conductors and artistic directors, including
Bernard Labadie, Eric J. Milnes, Christopher Jackson, Francis Colpron,
Geneviève Soly and Hervé Niquet.
Philippe Gagné also featured in two ATMA Classique recordings. The first one, entitled Cités d’or, showcases Latin-American baroque music that was originally performed at the Montréal Baroque Festival in 2013 and in Bolivia in April 2014 with L'Harmonie des Saisons. The other includes four cantatas by
J.S. Bach, performed by a quartet of soloists and Bande
Montréal Baroque under the direction of
Eric J. Milnes. This programme was presented in Regensburg, Germany, and at the Montréal Baroque Festival in June 2014. |
