Roberto Gabbiani (Choral Conductor)

Born: Prato, Italy

The Italian choral conductor, Roberto Gabbiani, graduated in piano and composition at the Florence Conservatory.

Roberto Gabbiani's repertoire ranges from the ancient (he directed, among other things, the first modern performances of music by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Paolo Aretino, Gesualdo da Venosa) to contemporary (he has been entrusted with the world premieres of composers such as Clementi, Giani Leporini, Nono, Petrassi, Corghi, Vacchi).

Since 1991 Roberto Gabbiani has been called by Riccardo Muti to direct the Chorus of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In this period, including the implementation of all programs of the theater, he also directed the Orchestra della Scala and the Orchestra Verdi di Milano in various choral-symphonic concerts. Has expanded the repertoire of the choir fronts to Renaissance, Baroque and contemporary with a specific impression of eclecticism. As principal conductor of Coro Filarmonico della Scala he has toured in Italy and abroad. Since 1999, he has been superintendent of the Fondazione Guido d'Arezzo and since 2000 he has collaborated with the Choir of Radio France with whom he has performed major choral-symphonic productions. Since September 2002 he was appointed Director of the Coro dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
