The English bass-baritone Andrew Foster-Williams studied at the Royal Academy of Music where he won many prizes and was recently made an Associate. He won second prize in the 1998 Kathleen Ferrier Award as well as winning the Anthony Lewis Musical Britannica Award.
Operatic engagements have included George Frideric Handel's Rodelinda with Nicholas McGegan in Göttingen, Acis and Galatea with the Early Opera Company, Radamisto and Alessandro Severo with the London Handel Society, W.A. Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte with the British Youth Opera, and Bethoven's Fidelio with the English Touring Opera. As a concert artist, Andrew Foster has performed with conductors such as Trevor Pinnock, Robert King, Nicholas Kraemer and En shao in works such as J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244), G.F. Handel's Messiah, Haynd's The Creation and Lord Nelson Mass, and Mozart's Requiem.
(A personal note (by Galina Kolomiets): having heard Mr. Foster live more than once, I can say that his voice is certainly hard not to notice: it is more in line with the darkness and authority of the old German tradition than with the light touch of bass-baritones such as Peter Harvey or Peter Kooy). |
