The American mezzo-soprano and music pedagogue, Blanche Arlelia Foreman, was born to Kathleen Hughes Foreman and the late John Allen Foreman. She was educated in Norfolk Public Schools and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia State University in public school music. She earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan in voice. She earned a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University in vocal performance and vocal literature with minors in music history and African-American music.
Blanche Foreman was an accomplished mezzo-soprano. Her career took a dual path in teaching and performance. She taught at Thurgood Marshall Academy (New York City), Frederick Douglass Academy (New York City), Superintendent's Academy (Washington, DC) and Houston-Wood Junior/Senior High School (Baltimore, Maryland). She also taught at Hostos Community College (CUNY) as Adjunct Professor, Trinity College (Washington, DC), Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, New York), Kentucky State University (Frankfurt, Kentucky), Governor's Scholars Program (Danville, Kentucky), Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana), University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan), and Norfolk State University (Norfolk, Virginia).
Blanche Foreman was a guest lecturer and instructor at the following: Alvin Ailey American Dance Center (NYC), Dance Theater of Harlem (New York City), and The Cornerstone Learning Center, Inc. (New York City). She was a professional soloist and Director of Children's Choirs at St. Matthew and St. Timothy's Episcopal Church (NYC). Blanche performed in many concert venues around the world and received numerous awards. Some of them include: Finalist, Montreal International Voice Competition; First Prize, Grinnell Voice Competition (Detroit, MI); Recipient, Phi Kappa Lambda Scholarship and Honors Award, University of Michigan; and guest artist at the Cranbrook Music Festival (Detroit, Michigan). |
