The Russian baritone, Anatolij Fokanov, finished his studies at the Music Academy of Novosibirsk as a singer, a teacher and choral conductor.
After finishing his studies, Anatolij Fokanov became a soloist of the Novosibirsk Opera, and later in other cities in his country: Saratov, Ufa and Dushambe. He won first prize at the prestigious Sobinov Competition in Saratov in 1991. In Russia he has sung all the major baritone roles of operatic literature, and worked with many renowned conductors, such as I. Zak, A. Katz and K. Kondrasin. After several years acting as guest singer, he joined the Hungarian State Opera in 1992, and he has been a member of the company ever since. he has become a member since 1992. In recent years he appeared as a guest singer in the following countries: France, Egypt, Croatia, Israel, Thailand, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Greece, Spain, Poland, Italy, England, Cyprus, Serbia, Germany, Switzerland, Finland and also Japan where he performs frequently.
His basic repertoire comprises some 200 works from 20 composers (e.g. Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninov, Dargomissky, Glinka, Schubert, Robert Schumann, Ravel). He mainly sings roles in Verdi and Verismo operas. Major roles: Escamillo in Carmen, Count Tomsky in The Dame of Spades, Gerald in Giordano’s André Chénier, Scarpia in Tosca, Nabucco, Macbeth, Rigoletto, Count Luna in Il trovatore, Germont in La traviata, Count Ankarström gróf in Un ballo in maschera, Amonasro in Aida, Rodrigo in Don Carlo, Iago in Otello.
His Awards: Merited Artist of the Hungarian Republic (2004); Eternal membership in the Society of the Hungarian Immortal Artists (2006, TV Award granted on the basis of public votes); Melis György - Award (2006, The Hungarian State Opera House); Outstanding Artist of the Hungarian Republic (2010); Székely Mihály - Memory Plaquatte (2012, The Hungarian State Opera House). |
