Marcos Fink (Bass-Baritone)

Born: Buenos Aires, Argentina

The Argentinean bass-baritone, Marcos Fink, was born in Buenos Aires into a Slovenian family where singing was always present. The singing representation of his father in the Fink Quarter encouraged him to participate in choirs at an early age. After high school he enrolled in the faculty of agronomy and, at the same time, started his vocal instruction with Ivan Ivanov and Victor Srugo. During ten years he was a member of the Slovenian vocal group Karantania directed by Maria Fink-Geržinič. He sang his first major soloist parts in the Argentinian National Polyphonic choir. He also acquired acting experiences participating in theatrical works represented in the Slovenian cultural association in Buenos Aires.

In 1985 Marcos Fink decided to begin his singing career as soloist. He furthered his singing instructions with various European maestros: Wolfgang Schöne (Bach Akademie Stuttgart), Philippe Huttenlocher, Aldo Baldin, Eric Werba and Guillermo Opitz. During this period, and while teaching agrarian zoology at the faculty of agronomy, he was member of different chamber groups: Camerata Monteverdi, Grupo Vilo, Camerata Vocale, Academia Bach de Buenos Aires, etc. In 1988 he received the Shell Argentina scholarship given by "Festivales Musicales de Buenos Aires" enabling him to travel to London where he enlarged his repertoire under the guidance of Heather Harper and Robert Sutherland.

After his scholarship Marcos Fink was invited to sing in Europe for the first time. His career as a soloist took him to the USA, France, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, where he performed in the concert repertoire (oratorios, opera airs, Lieder). He has sang under the direction of Rolf Beck, Semyon Bychkov, Sylvain Cambreling, Michel Corboz, Hans Graf, Theodor Guschlbauer, Leopold Hager, Martin Haselböck, Milan Horvat, René Jacobs, Uros Lajovic, Alain Lombard, Uwe Mund, Marko Munih, Anton Nanut, Donato Renzetti, Claudio Scimone, Lior Shambadal, Pinchas Steinberg, Markus Stenz, Günther Teuring, among many others.

Marcos Fink made his opera debut in 1990 at the Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg in Othello. He became soloist in the ‘Salzburger Landestheater’, where during W.A. Mozart's 200 anniversary he sang the roles of Figaro and Leporello among others. During the 1993-1994 season, he performed the role of Don Alfonso (in Cosi fan Tutte) in Frankfurt and the role of First Priest (Die Zauberflöte) in Bordeaux. After two years he decided to become free-lancer and has been invited to opera houses in Paris, Basel, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Catania, Triest, San Sebastian, Frankfurt, Ljubljana.

Marcos Fink has participated as soloist in CD released in France: Handel-W.A. Mozart Messiah, Puccini Messa di Gloria, J. Haydn Cecilia's Mass, J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232), W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Frank Martin Golgotha (Christ) under the conduction of Michel Corboz. He also recorded W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass conducted by Leopold Hager; Rossini Petit messe solennelle with Rolf Beck; Leopold I Musica imperialis with Martin Haselböck; W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni (as Leporello) and Cosi fan tutte (as Don Alfonso) with Alain Lombard, Guastavino Flores argentinas with the pianist Luis Ascot and several compositions within the "Musica sacra slovenica" collection, an anthology work prepared by Mirko Cuderman. For Radio Slovenia CD production he has released three Schubert's cycles: Die schöne Müllerin, Die Winterreise and Schwanengesang (Slovenian versions), Stanko Premrl's Christmas Mysteries and Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe and Liederkreis op. 39 with the accompaniment of Nataša Valant.
