Ensemble 36 (Vocal Ensemble)

Founded: 1988 - Berlin, Germany

The "Ensemble 36" was gathered for the first time in autumn 1998. Starting point was the rehearsal for performance of Arnold Schoenberg's Friede auf Erden.

The ensemble consists of 20 to 30 singers and works per project. Special attention is given to balancing of the sections and creating homogeneous choir sound. The members of the ensemble prepare the works independently, so that in no more than few common rehearsals are needed to have the "tones". Two concert programmes per year are planned. The emphasis of the programmes is put above all on modern works; they rarely perform choral works. The name of the ensemble refers not to the number of participants, but to their old postal zip code: 1000 Berlin 36).
