The German soprano, Eleonore Elstermann, studied with the singing pedagogues L. Behr-Schlegel, K. Gebel und F.R. Wark.
Eleonore Elstermann made her debut in 1951 at the Stadttheater of Magdeburg as Olympia in Hoffmanns Erzählungen by Offenbach. Until 1955 she worked at this opera house and followed a reputation as the coloratura soprano at the Staatsoper of Dresden. In a long career she had here, her great success were in roles such as Susanna in Figaro, Queen of the Night in Zauberflöte, Rosina in Barber of Seville by Rossini, Gilda in Rigoletto, Violetta in La Traviata, Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème, Sophie in Rosenkavalier and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos by R. Strauss. Guest performances took the very popular artist in Dresden to other venues, often together with the ensemble of the local Staatsoper. She had a successful concert career.
Since 1980, Eleonore Elstermann devoted herself to an extensive educational work in Dresden, and since 1987 director of the Opera Studio at the Dresdner Staatsoper
