The Swiss conductor, Peter Eidenbenz, was initially trained mainly as a teacher Subsequently, he studied at the Musikakademie and the Konservatorium of Zürich received the diploma as organist, the diploma for school music and the diploma as Kantor. During two years at the Konservatorium Unterricht he got instruction in orchestra conducting with Paul Müller, and was further trained in the performance practice of Baroque music. He also participated in master-classes in conducting with Igor Markewitch in Monte Carlo and with Helmuth Rilling in Stuttgart.
From 1964 to 1982 Peter Eidenbenz was a main teacher for singing and music, as well as for organ and piano at the canton school Glarus. He led the Glarner Kammerchor and the Glarner Kammerorchester, directed the Glarner's symphonic concerts with the Stadtorchester Winterthur and worked as guest conductor in Winterthur. Besides he was organist - first in Schwanden, later in Netstal.
Starting from 1982 Peter Eidenbenz has been main teacher for singing and music at the seminar for basic educational training in Zürich and is active today as a lecturer in the specialist area music and music history at the Volkshochschule Zürich. For several years he was a teacher for directing at the school music department of the Konservatorium of Zurich and led youth concerts and concerts for middle schools with the Tonhalle Orchester of Zürich. In 1987 he conducted the Basler Gesangvereins and directed in this ensemble in numerous concerts as well as the Sinfonieorchester Basel.
Peter Eidenbenz leads the Zürcher Bach-Chor since 1972. Thanks to his high claim of quality, his temper, his educational ability and his inspiring ability, the Zürcher Bach-Chor is placed today as one of the best choirs in the Zürich area. |
