The English baritone, Joseph Edwards (Joey Le Mesurier Edwards), began singing as a chorister at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, and sang for numerous Royal occasions, including the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. He furthered his love of choral singing as a scholar at King’s College London, and graduated with distinction from the Vocal Studies Masters course at the Royal Academy of Music (2016-2018), he graduated with distinction and was awarded the highest graduate diploma (DipRAM) for for outstanding performance of his final recital. He has studied with Alexander Ashworth since 2015.
In 2016 Joseph Edwards made his debut at Wigmore Hall in a recital for patients suffering with dementia, their friends, family, and carers as part of an outreach project through the Royal Academy of Music. Performing alongside pianist Joe Cummings, his programme included songs by Schubert, Herbert Howells’ Peacock Pie, and Richard Rodney Bennett’s Songs Before Sleep. His career as a soloist and consort singer has taken him to stages across Europe and America, and was formerly a lay clerk at St George’s Cathedral, Southwark. He was the Director of Music of Take Note Chamber Choir and works as a freelance soloist across London. He now sings with professional groups across the UK. His performance highlights include concerts at The Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall and Philharmonie de Paris, Radio 3 In Tune broadcasts with Sansara and Tenebrae, Orpheo and Euridice with Classical Opera, a European premier of a Brazilian radio opera, A Noiva do Condutor, and film soundtrack recordings at Abbey Road Studios. He has also worked in music production for TV shows including the X Factor Live Shows and Made in Chelsea.
Joseph Edwards holds a diploma in Music Performance (DipABRSM) and is in the final stages of his LRAM teaching award. He is currently Head of Singing at Ewell Castle School, where he takes pride in helping young singers to explore choral music. Joseph is particularly looking forward to the education and outreach opportunities as an Associate Artist with Tenebrae (since March 2019; Director: Nigel Short). He married Sarah Le Mesurier-Edwards on July 27, 2019. He recently (August 2023) moved to Guernsey and is the Festival Director of the Guernsey Choral Festival. |
