The Welsh soprano, Deryn Edwards, studied at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied opera.
After her studies, Deryn Edwards then joined Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Opera Company for two years. She has also toured with D'Oyly Carte Opera Company for a season, performing the role of Métella in La Vie Parisienne. She also sang for some time with the London Tijuana Brass Dance Band
In 1987, Deryn Edwards joined the international "a cappella" vocal group the Swingle Singers (Director: Ward Swingle), appearing in venues such as Carnegie Hall and The Lincoln Centre New York, Orchard Hall Tokyo, Ronnie Scott's and The Barbican Centre, London. Other performances with the group included the world premiere of Luciano Berio's Outis at La Scala Milan, a collaboration with Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and concerts with various orchestras including the New York Philharmonic Orchestra with Pierre Boulez, Toronto Symphony Orchestra with Steven Reineke, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra with Steuart Bedford, and Royal Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra with Luciano Berio. She also had the privilege of working with many eminent musicians in the jazz world, including Stephane Grapelli, the Jacques Loussier Trio, and Cleo Laine and John Dankworth.
Since leaving the Swingle Singers 1992, Deryn Edwards has worked extensively as a freelance singer in opera, musical theatre, concert and session work. |
