Matthias Echternach was a member of the Knabenchor Hannover (Director: Heinz Hennig) from 1981 until 1996; until 1986 as a boy soprano, after that as a tenor. As a boy soprano he sang solo parts in recordings of Bach Cantatas under the direction of Gustav Leonhardt in his joint cantata cycle with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, done in 1985. As a boy he also sang in the boys' terzetto in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in the Hannover opera house. He later studied singing with Peter Sefcik and Winfried Toll. He also studied piano (1979-1992, with Professor Märtson), contrabass (1988-1993, with Harald Wittig), and received the composition prize of the city Langenhagen in 1991.
Recently Matthias Echternach is practicing his singing in choirs like the Camerata Vocale Freiburg (Director: Winfried Toll; 1993-1999), KammerChor Saarbrücken (Director: Georg Grün; since 2000), Vocalensemble VocArt (since 2001), and Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius; since 2004). As a member of these ensemble he has taken part in numerous concerts and CD productions. In his daily life he is working as an otolaryngologist in the Institut for Performing Arts Medicine at the Freiburg University, Germany, specialized in voice disorders in singers. |
