The Spanish bass-baritone, Alfonso Echeverría, studied at Madrid Royal Conservatory, Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid with Ramón Regidor, taking a degree in law at the same time at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. He continued his vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria from 1979 to 1982. He also studied law at and Colegio Nuestra Señora del Recuerdo in Madrid.
Alfonso Echeverría sang at the Wiener Staatsoper under some of the leading conductors of the time. His career in Spain has brought appearances in theatres and festivals throughout the country (including Teatro Real in Madrid and Opera de Bilbao), and collaboration with colleagues and conductors of the greatest international distinction. At the same time he has undertaken important engagements throughout Europe and in the USA.
Alfonso Echeverría partcipated in over 20 LP & CD recordings, including Manuel de Falla's La vida breve (2004), Jose Maria Usandizaga's Mendi Mendiyan (2008), and Rogelio Groba's Gran Cantata Xacobea (1993), as well as video recordings of Camille Saint-Saëns' Sanson y Dalila (1989) and Umberto Giordano's Fedora (1988) and audio recording of G.F. Handel: Opera Alcina, HWV 34 conducted by Christophe Rousset.
Alfonso Echeverría is currently Music Director of Escuela de Canto Eugenia Echarren in Pamplona, Spain, where he lives. |
