The East Carolina University Chamber Singers is the most selective of four university choral ensembles at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Consisting primarily of undergraduate music majors, the ECU Chamber Singers is enjoying a growing reputation as evidenced by recent juried invitations to perform at state, regional, and national conventions of the american Choral Directors Association (ACDA), including at Southern Division regional Conventions in 2006 and 2010 and the national Convention in Miami in March 2007. At the Southern Division Convention in Memphis in 2010, the Chamber Singers have been selected to provide the premiere performance of the 2010 ACDA Raymond Brock Commission.
A champion of 20th and 21st century music including recent commissions and premieres, the ECU Chamber Singers also collaborates regularly with the ECU Early Music Ensemble. Recent and upcoming performances with that ensemble include Israel in Egypt and Messiah by George Frideric Handel, and the Ascension Oratorio BWV 11 by J.S. Bach. Since 2001, the ECU Chamber Singers have been under the direction of Daniel Bara, and have sung on concert tours in Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., including a performance at the Washington National Cathedral in the spring of 2005.
The ECU Chamber Singers’ first professional recording for Gothic records, “Greater Love”, was released internationally in november 2007. Their second recording on the Gothic records label, entitled “Eternal Light”, was released in March 2010. |
