The German tenor, Markus Durst, began his singing career at the age of 5 at with the Tölzer Knabenchor. As a soloist he gained early years of valuable experience at major opera stages. Those early years were important foundation stones for his musical and personal development. He remained with the choir for over 20 years combined, studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, and opera singing at the Bayerischen Theaterakademie "August Everding" in the class of Professor Frieder Lang, as well as in the Lied class of Fritz Schwinghammer. He attended master-classes with Alberto Zedda, Bruno Pratico und G. Zarelli, among others.
Already during his studies Markus Durst had a busy activity and a guesting at the opera houses of Cairo and Alexandria, as well as with small roles at the Bayerischen Staatsoper in Munich. In addition, he sang in 2006 for the first time at the Philharmonie im Gasteig in Munich.
Since the 2006-2007 season Markus Durst is engaged at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, made his debut there as Horatio in Hector Berlioz' Lelio, ou Le retour à la vie, and was heard as a guest also at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Main-Frankentheater Würzburg, the Theater Heilbronn, as well as the Cairo Opera House.
