The American soprano and music pedagogue, Mary Margaret Dundore, was born in Portland to John G. Dundore and Genevieve Clancy Dundore. She attended Holy Child Academy and graduated from the University of Oregon where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta and Mu Phi Epsilon. She attended The Julliard School and Columbia University in New York, and received her doctorate in music at the University of Washington.
Mary Margaret Dundore sang in the Portland Opera. She belonged to All Saints Catholic parish and was a member of the Archbishop's Seminary Tea Committee. She was a faculty member emeritus of the Community Music Center. She was a member of the Junior League and the Multnomah Athletic Club.
Mary Margaret Dundore was the Dean of Women at St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana. She returned to Portland and was Dean of Women at the University of Portland for many years, and was the Director of Cultural Programs at the university until her retirement. A member of the Advisory Committee on campus art, she was instrumental in acquiring the ''Christ the Teacher'' large bronze figure grouping by Donovan Peterson, which is on the university campus near the Mago Hunt Center. |
