Olivier Dumait (Tenor)

Born: France

The French tenor, Olivier Dumait, studied at the Centre de Musique Baroque, Versailles and at London's Royal Academy of Music. He was named Emerging Artist of the Year (“Nachwuchskünstler”) by the magazine Opernwelt for his performance as Prologue in The Turn of the Screw at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.

Olivier Dumait has performed under Pierre Boulez, Daniel Harding, Myung-Whun Chung, Sir Simon Rattle, Kazushi Ono, Christophe Rousset, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Marc Minkowski in such prestgious venues as La Monnaie, Covent Garden, la Scala, Amsterdam Opera, Berlin Staatsoper, Flanders Opera, Lausanne, Theater an der Wien, Ermitage Theatre St Petersbourg, Concertgebouw. In his home country of France he has sung many times at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Théâtre du Châtelet, Salle Pleyel, and the opera houses of Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Lyon, Avignon, Montpellier, Tours and Limoges.

In concert, engagements have included Berlioz Roméo et Juliette, and L’Enfance du Christ, Benjamin Britten's Canticles and Serenade for tenor, horn and strings, Gabriel Fauré's La Bonne Chanson, Jonathan Harvey’s Scene from an opera, Dichterliebe and Liederkreis, J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) and B Minor Mass (BWV 232),George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Haydn The Creation, Nelson Mass, Paukenmesse and Seven Last Words, Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah, W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass, Mass in C Minor and Requiem, Robert Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri.

Olivier Dumait's most recent engagements have included L’Aumonier in Francis Poulenc's Les Dialogues des Carmelites for Opéra de Toulon and L’Interprete in Messager’s L’Amour Masqué in Avignon. His other opera engagement have included: Quint and Prologue in Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw, Agenore in W.A. Mozart's Il Re Pastore, Antonin in Ciboulette, Médor Roland, Schoolmaster in The Cunning little Vixen, Gastone in Traviata, Flavio in Norma, Mercure in Orpheus in the Underworld, Tybalt in Romeo et Juliette, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas, The Fairy Queen, Igor Stravinsky's Renard, Young Prisoner in From the House of the Dead, Tanzmeister and Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos, Jacquino in L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio, Céladon in Pastorale, Bois-Rosé in Les Huguenots, Gérard in Les Enfants terribles.

His recordings include Lully’s Roland with Les Talens Lyriques, and he can be seen on the DVD's of the Aix-en-Provence The Turn of the Screw (Daniel Harding/ Bondy) and the Pierre Boulez / Chérau From The House of the Dead. Broadcasts include Ubaldo in Judith Weir’s Armida for Channel 4 TV.
