The German bass, Thomas Dobmeier, grew up in a family of singers. His /mother, father, sister and brother are likewise singers. Already in his childhood he became acquainted with the big sacred works in the choir of the father Pro Musica Sacra. His higher education in singing began with Kammersängerin Ilse Hollweg; afterwards at the Alanus-Hochschule in Alfter/Bonn; with Professor Josef Loibl at the Musikhochschule Graz; with Professor Raimund Grumbach at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. He attended master-classes with Helmut Deutsch, Josef Greindl, Andreas Schmidt and James King. He also took courses with Hans Hotter and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, as well as voice and improvisation with Bobby McFerrin.
Thomas Dobmeier began his singing career as bass soloist at the Südostbayerischen Städtetheater Passau and at the Landestheater Coburg. Since 1993 he is active as freelance singer. He has sung the roles of Sarastro, Osmin, König Philipp, Grossinquisitor, Maximilian (Graf von Moor), Basilio and Sir John Falstaff (Otto Nicolai), among others. He has appeared as a guest, for example, as Osmin in Salzburg, with the Chiemgau-Festspielen, at the Munich Olymp (Tollwood-Festival) and in Spain, as well as with other big roles at various German opera houses. His concert and oratorio repertoire covers the all well-known sacred works. He sang under renowned conductors with Hermann Prey, Felicia Weathers, Marjana Lipovšek and other well-known singers. His artistic activity has led him to Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Holland, Poland, Norway and Israel. Apart from opera and concert Thomas Dobmeier he has a special affinity for the Lieder.
Thomas Dobmeier is also active successfully as a singing pedagogue. He taught at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. He gives regularly master-classes for singing by the Europe Akademie/Isny, which have been received with great acclaim. He won prizes in several international singing competitions. For example, the Grand Prix in Italy; the international singing competition in the areas of opera, concert and Lieder in Weimar; in June 2000 (in the singing competition of the competition winners) in the "Grand Prix" of the "Torneo Internazionale di Musica“ in Italy. He won first prize or was among the winners of 13 international singing competitions in Europe. |
