Anton Diakov (Bass)

Born: December 12, 1934 - Sofia, Bulgaria

The Bulgarian bass, Anton Diakov, is the son of an Bulgarian diplomat. In the same time he worked as a graduated Architect and studied singing. First prizes in several competitions made him the leading singer of his generation in Bulgaria. In Rome he continued his studies at the conservatory of Santa Cecilia and with Maestro Luigi Ricci he made a specialisation at the Studio of Teatro dell'Opera, his debut and beginning of a very successful career.

Anton Diakov has sung all the important basso parts (more than 97 roles in his repertoire) on more than 38 stages and Festivals places in Europe under some of the most famous conductors, including: Metropolitan Opera New York, Milan’s La Scala, Covent Garden London, Grand Opéra Paris, Teatro Liceo Barcelona, Théâtre de la Monnaie Bruxelles, Festival Salzburg, Osterfestspiele Salzburg, Festival d'Orange and more.

Anton Diakov has made numerous recordings of Operas and Lieder and also participated in oratorios, chamber music and recitals, making a career as a concert-singer.

Anton Diakov did as Music producer and Moderator a row of radio transmissions about the Vocal Art of slaves and the Orthodox Church music in SRG Bern and RsR Genêve. He gives also often Courses and Seminars about interpretation and vocal music contents.
