The bass Nachum Deckel was born in Poland and immigrated to Israel in 1926 with his parents. They lived in Tel-Aviv. He entered into music after getting married. His wife had a vocal quartet with a piano. When the bass singer left, Nachum was offered to take his place.
He sang in Eitan Lustig Chamber Choir from 1952. In the 1956 he joined the Rinat Choir and was its member for about 40 years. From 1952 to 1955 he studied at the Israeli School for Music Educators, but decided not to pursue a career as a music teacher. In 1960 he joined the Israeli Opera and was there for about two years, during which he sang in the choir and was also given small solo parts. In 1962 he appeared at the Abu-Gosh Music Festival, singing in J.S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 21. From 1960 he was also a member of Renanim Choir under the guidance of Gil Al-Dema, and was its member until 1995, when the ensemble disbanded. |
