The English mezzo-soprano, Eleanor Dann, Eleanor achieved Bachlor of Arts degree in Music with Honours from the University of York (2011-2014) and completed her postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (2018-2019). She is currently studying under the tutelage of Gary Coward.
Eleanor Dann has been active as a freelance singer sine 2011. Originally trained as a soprano, she began accepting solo engagements as a mezzo-soprano in 2019 after rediscovering her voice and honing a richer timbre. Highlights since include L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No.9, Purcell’s Come Ye Sons of Art and J.S. Bach’s St Matthew Passion (BWV 244).
In summer 2019 she was invited to sing the role of Newspaper Seller and cover the role of Russian Nanny at the St Endellion Summer Festival for a semi-staged performance of Benjamin Britten's Death in Venice. Since retraining as a mezzo-soprano, she has performed the role of Second Woman in Dido and Aeneas at St Martin-in-the-Fields and, in scenes, the roles of Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro with the London Incidental Orchestra and Ottavia in L'incoronazione di Poppea at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Some of her favourite memories whilst studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama include performing a recital of songs by Joaquín Rodrigo, singing Chorus in W.A. Mozart Così fan tutte and taking part in a showcase of new arrangements from The Great American Songbook. As a soprano, Eleanor’s operatic roles included Galatea in Acis and Galatea, Miss Wordsworth in B. Britten's Albert Herring, Countess Almaviva in W.A. Mozart Le nozze di Figaro and Donna Anna in W.A. Mozart Don Giovanni.
Eleanor Dann is in high demand as a consort and choral singer and has featured on a number of professional recordings including I Fagiolini (Director: Robert Hollingworth) album ‘Amuse-Bouche’. She is currently an interim alto with the choir of St Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge and held a regular alto position with choir of St Bartholomew-the-Great during 2018-2020. Eleanor enjoys singing with other professional choirs including St Paul’s Cathedral Consort, London Choral Sinfonia and Armonico Consort (Director: Christopher Monks).
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Eleanor Dann has had numerous engagements cancelled. She is looking forward to making music again and sharing music with audiences when it is safe to do so. She currently lives in Saint Albans, Hertfordshire, England. |
