The Spanish tenor, Luis Dámaso, studied with Antonio Blancas, director of the Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid. He has won various prizes, including at Francisco Alonso in Madrid (1992), Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition in Philadelphia (1995), I Cestelli competition in Stuttgart (1996), Jacinto e Inocencio Guerrero in Madrid (1996), Jaime Aragall in Gerona (1997), and Federico Romero of La Sociedad General de Autores y Editores de España (SGAE) (1999).
Luis Dámaso's first great role was Rodolfo in La Bohème at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid in 1996, co-initiating a career in the major European and American theaters, singing the first operas roles: La Traviata, Faust, LŽelisire dŽamore, Le Villi, Lucia di Lammermoor, Macbeth, W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Il Tabarro, W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo, George Frideric Handel's Alcina, Otello, Il Domino Nero, Marina, La Vida Breve, La Dolores, El Gato Montés, Goyescas and Dulcinea.
In the field of the oratorio, Luis Dámaso has sung Misa de Gloria by Puccini, Stabat Mater and Petite messe solennelle by Rossini, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Creation, L.v. Beethoven's Mass in C major, W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass, G.F. Handel's Messiah, and Eslava's Mise-rere (at the Teatro Real, Auditorio Nacional and Teatro Monumental in Madrid) along with prestigious orchestras and ensembles such as the Orfeón Donostiarra, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta Sinfónica de RTVE and Radio-Symphonie-Orchester-Berlin.
Luis Dámaso has performed his repertoire of Zarzuela at Teatro Real and La Zarzuela in Madrid, Campoamor in Oviedo and Maestranza in Seville and includes the following works: Doña Francisquita, Luisa Fernanda, La Tabernera del Puerto, El Huesped del Sevillano, Los Gavilanes, Jugar con Fuego, La Chulapona, La Bruja, La Canción del Olvido, El Barberillo de Lavapiés and La Leyenda del Beso.
Luis Dámaso performs recitals in numerous auditoriums and theaters in Europe and the USA, including those offered in honor of Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Alfredo Kraus at La Solana, Victoria de los Ángeles in Barcelona, concert with Renata Scotto at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, a concert commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Teatro de la Zarzuela, the 10th Anniversary of the re-opening of the Teatro Real, concerts at the Palacio Euskalduna ine Bilbao and at the Gödölló Palace in Budapest with Ainhoa Arteta with whom she collaborates frequently, the inauguration of the Auditorio Juan Carlos I in Tenerife, galas and representations in the theaters: Monumental of Madrid, Guimerá of Tenerife, Cuyás of Grán Canaria, Auditorio of Santiago de Compostela, Palacio de La Opera of La Coruña, Palacio de Festivales of Santander, Auditorio of Oviedo, Baluarte of Pamplona, Gran Teatro of Córdoba, Villamarta of Jerez, Cervantes of Málaga, Jovellanos of Gijón, Calderón of Valladolid, Teatro Storchi of Módena, Opera of Rennes, Pergolesi of Jesi, Opera of Nancy, Koncerthaus of Berlin, Prinzregententheather of Munich, Koncertsaal of Stuttgart, Staatstheater of Saarbrücken, Academy of Music of Philadelphia, Kravis Center of Florida etc.
Luis Dámaso has sung with conductors such as: Frühbeck de Burgos, E. García Asensio, Gómez Martínez, Odón Alonso, Ros Marbá, Victor Pablo Pérez, Sainz Alfaro, Miguel Ortega, Luis Remartínez, Theo Alcántara, Aldo Ceccato, Friedrich Haider, Christophe Rousset, Ralf Weikert, Giuliano Carella, Kamal Khan, and stage directors such as: José Tamayo, Emilio Sagi, Miguel Narros, José Carlos Plaza, Gerardo Malla, Gustavo Tambascio, Pier Luigi Pizzi and Maurizio Nichett.
