The American soprano, Courtney Curtis, was 5 years old began singing in the choir of her family’s church. When she entered Northern Illinois University, she intended to become a band director. But one of her teachers recognized that she had a gift and encouraged her to redirect her energies toward singing. She graduated as a voice major and decided to specialize in early music, which she studied at the Longy School of Music in Boston.
IN 2014, Courtney Curtis sandg multiple performances of George Frideric Handel's Messiah with the Bach Collegium San Diego and “Homage to the Virgin” programs with the South Coast Chamber Choir. And she has also sung with Sacra/Profana. Later that year, she sang with the Bach Collegium San Diego, which performed a seasonal program titled “Magnificat: From Darkness to Light” at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park on Friday and St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church in Pacific Beach on Saturday. Both performances were conducted by the Bach Collegium San Diego's founder, Ruben Valenzuela. She is a membere of Bach Collegium San Diego (Director: Ruben Valenzuela), South Coast Chamber Choir (Director: Gary McKercher) and San Diego Pro Arte Voices (Director: John Russell). She also sings every Sunday morning at at St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, where she is the soprano section leader.
In 2011, Courtney Curtis married John Minor, whom she met while playing in marching band at Northern Illinois. He is a Marine stationed at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (he plays euphonium in Marine Band San Diego). Like most professional singers, she does a lot of juggling to keep her career going. In addition to being a singer, she is working a full-time job at Scripps Research Institute and has two children, ages 3 months and 5 years. |
