The Canadian mezzo-soprano, Hélène Couture, studied at Université Laval in Québec with Danielle Demers and Michel Ducharme and went on to complete her studies at the University of Toronto with Professor Mary Morrison (Master of Music in Performance and Opera School Diploma) and was also a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, working with James Levine. She attended the Britten-Pears School of Music in Aldeburgh (England), where she studied with Roger Vignoles and was a soloist for the International Bach Festival in Toronto under the baton of Helmuth Rilling. In 2007 she was the Third Prize Winner of the Concours International de Chant de
Marmande.
Hélène Couture is now living in Zürich where she was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Zürich Opera House. At the Zürich Opera House, she has impressed the critics with her interpretation of the role of Smaragdi from Francesca di Rimini (Zandonaï) as well as serving as a last minute replacement for Thomas Hampson in a Liedermatinee. At the Zürich Opera House she has also performed the roles of Mago in Rinaldo by George Frideric Handel with William Christie, Der Fuchs in Das Schlaue Füchslein ny Janáček, Bersi in Andrea Chénier by Giordani with Nello Santi, Flora in La traviata and Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor. Most recently she was invited as a guest to perform the role of Francesca in the world premiere of Gesualdo by composer Marc-André Dalbavie and stage directors Moshe Leiser and Patrice
Caurier.
In Germany, she sang Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte by Mozart, in Canada the roles of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart and Bradamante in Alcina by G.F. Handel and in the USA performed the roles of L'Enfant in L'Enfant et les Sortilèges by Ravel.
