The Argentinean mezzo-soprano, Virginia Correa Dupuy, studied singing at the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón. As a pupil of Noemí Souza, she studied piano at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán and obtained her B.A. degree in Musicology at the Conservatorio Juan José Castro. She received the 1st Prize at the Concursos Por las Artes y las Ciencias de la Fundación Coca Cola and the Internacional de Canto de Río de Janeiro. She was honoured by the Fundación Konex as one of the most prominent singers of the last decade. In 2005 she was honoured by the Music Critics Association of Argentina as the best country singer in 2004.
Virginia Correa Dupuy appeared as soloist with the Camerata Stuttgart, Concerto Vocale, and with such orchestras as Sinfónica Nacional, Filarmónica de Buenos Aires, Camerata Bariloche, Sinfónica de Madrid, Nederland Kamerorkest of Ámsterdam and Camerata Nova of Prague, among others. She sang under the conductors Serge Baudo, René Jacobs, Stefan Lano, Ivor Bolton, Romano Gandolfi, Pedro I. Calderón, Reynaldo Censabella, Gerardo Gandini, György Györivanyi Ráth and Mario Videla, to name a few.
Virginia Correa Dupuy performed in El amor brujo at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam conducted by Philippe Entremont, El secreto enamorado (world premiere) by Manuel Balboa at Teatro La Zarzuela in Madrid, Georges Bizet's Carmen and Orlando Furioso at the State Theatre of Prague, Richter on the Theatre La Villette in Paris, and was presented with the group Tango Futur directed by Claude Delangle at the International Festival of Contemporary Music in Grenoble.
In the last few seasons, Virginia Correa Dupuy sang Alceste and Carmen at the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, W.A. Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito at the Teatro Avenida, Ariadne auf Naxos for Buenos Aires Lírica; Bomarzo, Carmen, Francis Poulenc's Diálogos de carmelitas, Capriccio, Le Rossignol, Jonny spielt auf y Boris Godunov at the Teatro Colón, among others. |
