Consortium Musica Sacra Köln (Instrumental Ensemble)

Founded: Köln (Cologne), Germany

The Consortium Musica Sacra Köln has set itself the goal of performances of Sacred Music (Catholic as Protestant) equipped with adequate instrumental ensembles.

Adequacy - that is suitable in terms of cast size and instrumentation. The Consortium Musica Sacra Köln offers the possibility of using "old" as well as "modern" instruments. This applies to the strings (gut or steel strings) as well as for wind instruments (flute / modern flute, baroque / modern oboe, modern bassoon / baroque bassoon / Dulcian. etc.). Keyboard and other chord instruments (harpsichord, organ, or continuo lute as Archlute chitarrone) are available in all vocal heights (415 Hz, 430 Hz, 440-443 Hz, and "choir pitch" 465 Hz).

All instrumentalists in the ensemble are studied, professional and experienced players from the "free" - ie not subsidized - music scene and therefore are free from "retracted" routine habits. The players know each other, there is a fundamental "consensus" in terms of playing style. On the other hand, the players are also generally not fixed in "early music scene", which helps to prevent an overly stereotypical way of playing the older music.

The repertoire ranges from early Baroque (from Michael Praetorius) on the high and late Baroque, Classical, Romantic to the present. The cast size is initially of a simple string section from (ie, 2 Vl., 1 Vla, 1 Vc, 1 Kb / violone), but is easily expandable up to 5-5-4-3-2. The horns are used to depending on demand. Even pure contnuo group (eg organ - archlute - Cello - violone) are possible.

With these options, the Consortium Musica Sacra Köln applies especially to choirs of all sizes - from small vocal ensembles with individual voices of soloists to the oratorio chorus, solo singers to instrumental soloists and in need of an accompanying ensemble.
