The American baritone, Ivan Conrad, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree and his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of New Mexico where he performed Colline La Bohéme, Prince Gremin Eugene Onegin, and Sarastro in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte; then his Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music performing Raimondo Lucia di Lammermoor and the bass of the opera box quartet in The Ghosts of Versailles.
Ivan Conrad is a commanding actor with a powerfully cutting, yet artistically versatile voice. Of over 75 roles performed across a dozen European cities in Italy, Germany and Greece, and in more than 30 of the USA, highlights of his career include the title-roles Der Fliegende Holländer, Der Kaiser von Atlantis, and Gianni Schicchi; both Figaro and Il Conte W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro; Scarpia Tosca, Amonasro Aïda; Escamillo, Dancaïro, and Zuniga in Georges Bizet's Carmen; Marcello, Schaunard, and Colline in La Bohème, Monterone, Marullo and Ceprano in Rigoletto; and Silvio in I Pagliacci. Conrad is currently preparing Germont and Barone in La Traviata and di Cosimo in Il Postino.
In 2011, the Festival Internazionale della Cultura in Bergamo, Italy invited Ivan Conrad back to sing Battista and Vincenzo in La Bisbetica Domata (Benjamin Britten's The Taming Of The Shrew) after singing the bass solo of W.A. Mozart's Requiem the previous year alongside singers and musicians from Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In the 2012-2013 season, he performed with 7 opera companies: a Studio Artist at Chautauqua Opera covering Swallow in B. Britten's Peter Grimes; a Resident Artist at Dicapo Opera Theatre in Manhattan singing Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Alidoro in La Cenerentola, and the Father Beauty and the Beast; Natchez Festival of Music performing the First Gangster Kiss Me Kate and Osmin in Billy Goats Gruff; Empire Opera in Manhattan as the Undesirable in the world premiere of Rumpelstiltskin; New York Lyric Opera as Zuniga in Carmen; Opera Moderne in Manhattan covering Der Tod in Der Kaiser Von Atlantis; and with Emerald City Opera in Colorado covering Figaro and singing Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro.
During the 2013-2014 season, Ivan Conrad was a Studio Artist at Sarasota Opera singing Le Soldat in Jérusalem; and a Resident Artist at Connecticut Lyric Opera singing Il Bonzo in Madama Butterfly, covering the title role of Der Fliegende Holländer in both companies. The 2014-2015 season’s engagements included the title-role Le Nozze di Figaro with Manhattan Opera Studio; Marchese in La Traviata with Opera at the Madison; Marullo Rigoletto with MidAtlantic Opera in New Jersey, the soloist for George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Johannes Brahms' Requiem and W.A. Mozart's Requiem with New York Choral Society; and a guest artist at The Juilliard School covering Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro.
During the 2015-2016 season, Ivan Conrad made his Carnegie Hall solo debut as the baritone soloist in Robert S. Cohen’s Alzheimer’s Stories; was the baritone soloist in L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Ars Musica in New Jersey; performed major roles in 3 operas and 6 concerts in Syros, Greece with the Festival of the Aegean and Greek Opera Studio; and was a Studio Artist at Sarasota Opera and Natchez Festival of Music performing Frank in Show Boat, covering Escamillo in Carmen and Rolando in La Battaglia Di Legnano. He also performed a concert of opera scenes at the National Opera Center in New York with Opera Breve. During the 2016-2017 season, he was seen as the title-role Gianni Schicchi with Salt Marsh Opera in Connecticut and Rhode Island; returned to Opera at the Madison on Long Island to perform Zuniga in Carmen and cover Escamillo; performed Perchik in Fiddler on the Roof with Klezmer Company Orchestra in Miami; performed Peter in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel and Joey The Most Happy Fella at Quisisana in Maine; and was invited to perform operatic scenes at Carnegie Hall with New York Lyric Opera Theatre.
Other previous engagements include the ensemble of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No.13 ‘Babi Yar’ and J.S. Bach's B Minor Mass (BWV 232) with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra; the soloist for G.F. Handel's Messiah and L.v. Beethoven's Mass in C with the New Mexico Philharmonic, Ceprano in Rigoletto with Long Island Opera Company, Zuniga in Carmen with Opera Southwest (Albuquerque), and as a guest artist with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale.
Last season, Ivan Conrad performed the title-role Le Nozze di Figaro in Greve in Chianti, in Tuscany; returned to Long Island Opera Company to perform Schaunard in La Bohème; (November 2017); returned to Opera at the Madison on Long Island to cover Marcello in La Bohème; and performed Amonasro in Aïda and Sprecher and 2nd Priest in Die Zauberflöte with Connecticut Lyric Opera. He is currently based in Manhattan. |
