The Irish soprano, Janyce Condon, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in in English and Classical Civilization from University College Dublin and her Higher Diploma in Education from Trinity College Dublin. She obtained her Master of Music degree in performance from the Opera Studio at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, where she was awarded a scholarship for three years to study with tenor Eduardo Giménez. While at the Liceu, she sang in many productions, galas and recitals, including the Zarzuela, La Contadina in Corte by Boccherini and La Clementina by Sacchini.
After Barcelona, Janyce Condon began singing for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, first as a member of their chorus, then progressing to covering main roles. She went on to perform main roles for opera companies in Britain and Ireland - including Elisabetta in Donizetti's Roberto Devereux, Erste Dama in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Nora in Ralph Vaughan Williams' Riders to the Sea and Cleopatra in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare - as well as numerous oratorios and recitals. She also enjoys collaborating with artists in other fields, including Ulla von Brandenberg for the ‘tableau vivant’ Chorspiel; Jessie Jones for films such as Sleepwalker, based on La Somnambula by Bellini; and more recently The Prosperity Project, devising a piece commissioned by the Office of Public Works.
Janyce Condon has extensive teaching experience and is currently a vocal tutor at NUI Maynooth, in addition to teaching at Waltons New School of Music since 2011. |
